Maternity Leave

With just a month left to go in my pregnancy, it's time to take "maternity leave." It's getting a little tricky to bend over, waddle around, and chase after cute little kids. But give me a few months and I'll be back in full swing. (hopefully. :)) I apologize to those whom I've already turned down for this fall. But I hope you understand.

The Saints To Sinners Bike Relay 2011

For those of you who don't know, the Saints to Sinners Bike Relay, is a fundraiser race for ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease. It is a race from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas in teams of 5 or 10 people.There have been people from all over the United States come to participate in it.

ALS is a disease that has no cure...and this bike race is trying to raise money and awareness to fight it.

This year, one of the participants, Creighton Rider, has ALS. The disease has started to affect his arms, but his legs are still strong. He and his wife Lisa bought this tandem bike so that he could peddle, and she could steer and brake. They put together 2 teams for the race, made up of family and friends, to make the trek down to Las Vegas. They were truly inspiring to watch.

In addition to being a good cause, the race is also a good time. Participants push their limits as they take turns riding from the scenic sights of Utah, into the blistering heat of Nevada.

They ride day and night...and into the day again.

Until they reach the finish line.

This is the winning 5 Man team.And this year for the first time, there was a 2 Man team. They amazingly and successfully made it to the end...

And they were still smiling...And Creighton? Well, he made it to the finish as well. What an emotional scene it was to watch him and his wife cross the finish line with all of their friends and family behind them, supporting them until the end.

So spread the word. For a good time and a good cause, the Saints to Sinners Bike Relay will surely create some memories for you!

Since I recently found out I am pregnant with our 4th son, this shoot was extra fun for me as I watched these cute brothers interact with each other.They had energy, a sense of humor, you could tell they liked each other,and they even had some portrait ideas of their own.I was also extremely glad they were all boys with short hair, because although you can't tell in the pictures, it was a CRAZY windstorm the day we took these. Had they been girls, it would have been a hairy mess!

These boys made me even more excited to have another one of my own. :)

Working on these pictures made me happy. It had rained every day the week we took these, and we were lucky enough to catch a break one evening. I'm glad we did because we ended up with so many great pictures!Aren't they a cute family? I love how the baby is holding his brother's hand in this one.It's not every day you get so many great shots of all the kids smiling and looking cute. How do you pick a favorite? And because I have a soft spot for multiples, I had to thrown this one in too. Darling family, both inside and out.

I'll admit, I am more comfortable shooting outdoors than indoors. Natural light is my friend. But what do you do when it is a snowy day, and it just happens to be the only day when the whole family is in town? In this case, we ended up going to backup location #3 and said, "The show must go on!" But, even though we weren't in an ideal lighting situation, I think we were able to get some keepers.Isn't he so cute?It's not my story to tell, but believe me when I say these are 2 miracle babies. Have I mentioned before that I have a soft spot for miracle babies? She is a beautiful little fighter!

I was so impressed with this shoot, for many reasons.

1. It was rainy and windy off and on all day, but when it was time to take their pictures, the weather cooperated!2. These girls were SO easy! They sat and smiled and looked cute, and did whatever was asked of them.3. When the youngest sister hurt her toe, the older two were quick to turn around and help her.4. Even though there was a cat that kept walking by, they didn't get distracted and they kept on smiling.5. And maybe, just maybe, I was most impressed that their dad arranged this photo shoot as a surprise birthday present for their mom! He made the appointment, bought and coordinated the outfits, and kept everything a secret to pull of the surprise for his wife. Isn't that sweet? That's my kind of birthday present! So I had to snap a quick picture of him too. :)

This race will be awesome. It will have beautiful scenery, going through Zion's National Park, as well as easy, intermediate, and advanced legs, so all skill levels can be accommodated. The teams will consist of 5 or 10 riders (your preference), and there will be stations along the way.

For those of you who are familiar with Ragnar, it's the same idea, only on bikes. It's going to be a good time!

This shoot was both intimidating AND fun. You see, this lovely mother is a photographer, so I was feeling the pressure. :) But she was great! And really, there was no pressure. She was calm the entire shoot and just let her kids be who they are, so everyone was happy the whole night!The boys were cracking me up with their poses. We'd pick a location and they would just fall into place. Easiest photo shoot ever. I think they've had some good practice. :)

So, the weather was NOT in our favor for this cute little family. Thick, dark, (actually black) clouds were looming overhead, leaving us with really poor lighting. But we were there, and they looked snazzy, so they decided to shoot anyway. Oh, and did I mention it was cold? Poor short-sleeved girls.But I think this is one good-looking family, and hopefully their pretty faces make up for the high ISO and lack of light...So to work with the circumstances, I played around a bit with this shot. What do you like?

World Senior Games

I have a new found appreciation for Sports Photographers!I was asked to be a photographer for the Huntsman World Senior Games, so I spent last week in St. George photographing different events. I had a great time interacting with the "old folks," and I learned a lot about sports photography as well.Each sport produced different challenges for capturing great shots, including high speed motion, bad lighting (indoor, dim, and flourescent),and on top of that, all shots are straight out of the camera...ZERO editing.But despite the challenges shooting the super fast cyclists, under-water swimmers, and the jumping basketball and volleyball players, I managed to get some shots that I was pleased with, and the athletes were as well. Anytime they saw a picture with their feet in the air, they'd love it and say something to the likes of "sweet action shot!" Because "old men can jump." :) They were fun. Here are a few more of my favorites. Isn't this guy awesome? I was seriously wow-ed and inspired by these senior athletes. They were quite impressive. Some were 55 and looked much younger, and some were 95 and looked just that! :)I loved snapping their picture right after they finished their race.Doesn't his face just say it all? May we all be as energetic as they are when we are "seniors."
